So where should I start? Are there game manuals or something similar I can read to get idea of how things work? Any YouTube channels to check out to get the basics? I guess I don't have a specific ask but any suggestions of things to look into to help ease into this seemingly labyrinthine hobby would be much appreciated. But don’t worry, by consulting basic documentation such as the Warhammer 40k book and the rule book, you’ll become an expert much faster than you think. I've had Necromunda, Blood Bowl, or Kill Team suggested as stepping stones but they might be more than I can take on at the moment. The Warhammer 40k universe is so vast and evolutionary that it’s only natural that as a beginner you don’t know where to start. Honestly, the lore and gameplay seem daunting, but I want to jump in. Hell, I'm pretty sure I don't even know a single mechanic of the actual game.
Unfortunately I'm not in a place (financially or space wise) to start collecting and painting miniatures or playing the real game. I've played a bit of Vermintide II and am really looking forward to Darktide. I also grabbed Necromunda: Hired Gun the day it came out and am having a janky, fun time with that. I got Space Marine Adventures a while back and really enjoy that and have gotten my fiancee and some friends on board. I have some exposure to it in really broad ways-osmosis from (non-local) friends who are into it, listening to Bolt Thrower, this sub, random reading here and there. The 40K universe is really up my alley thematically and artistically for my entertainment tastes.
